Elise is one of five artists chosen for the residency for the month of June, the others being Carlos Carty, Ruby Allan, Anne Wright, and Roger Moore. Pictured here is KIRA the residence where the artists are staying and Elise's studio (one of five on the property). Right next door is the lovely Kingsbrae Gardens which is full of inspiration and beauty. Please check back to see photos of the sculptures Elise has been creating during her stay.

On Friday of the May long weekend, Cirvan Hamilton, Gary Mitchell and I installed my sculpture "Connections" in front of the Dorset Health Hub. It depicts an Autumnal family stroll in Dorset with the Fall leaves around the base. The young child at the back of the sculpture lifts up a large leaf in delight. The family has a strong connection with the environment and with eachother. Following is a slideshow of the installation process! Cirvan was honoured to receive the Craft Ontario Affiliate Award at the Muskoka Arts and Crafts Spring Members Show on Friday night. This includes a year long membership to the Ontario Craft Council. The fir cabinet is adorned with beautiful exotic wood inlay and carburetor parts. The judges were impressed with Cirvan's fine craftsmanship on all sides and inside of the cabinet. My Fall/Winter/Early Spring project is to carve a family sculpture out of yellow limestone from British Columbia that will be installed in the new gardens of the Dorset Health Hub. The slideshow shows the rock how it started, the shelter which was built over it, and the work-in-progress of the 5 foot tall sculpture.
I had a lovely commission to carve two tree people holding up a leafy basin for the birds. The birdbath was installed early October at my clients Lake of Bays residence. The stone is Purple Rust Limestone from British Columbia.
This was the fifth year for Nuit Blanche North in downtown Huntsville and the 5th time I have had an interactive art booth for the event. This year the theme was Away We Go, exploring movement. My daughter and her friend helped with the props for the booth as well as helping during the event. The Wings booth was a place where people of all ages could make a pair of wings to clip on their shirt, hair, hat, bag etc. Only crayons were used to decorate them because colouring is so relaxing. Many amazing wings were made throughout the night but my storage filled up and I only have a few pics as a result. Thanks again to Huntsville Festival of the Arts and Edge of the Woods Theatre for putting together another excellent Nuit Blanche North!
Recently Cirvan has made a beautiful oak fireplace surround, a gate, and projects such as the box and bookcases with gorgeous inlay.
I'm very excited about a commission to carve this 1223 pounds of Purple Rust Limestone from British Columbia. I started carving it this week and will reference my original half-sized clay maquette of two tree people - a man and a woman - holding up a leafy basin for the birds.
Last weekend was the first of two Muskoka Autumn Studio Tour weekends. The weather was gorgeous and we met lots of great visitors. We are looking forward to this weekend, Saturday October 4th and Sunday October 5th from 10am-6pm! Please come by to see our new work at Stone Tree Studio and us working in the Workshop as well. Pictured below is a pale pink fertility goddess that I was demonstrating on during the tour - she's a sculpture that hangs on the wall! Cirvan has been building a new cabinet during the Studio Tour, stay tuned for finished photos.
